To finish the floating star quilt I started many years ago, I am adding a Tippecanoe block. Although not a star, it echoes the pattern of the linking star I have (the real name for which I’ve long forgotten).
It’s been an age since I put blocks together so I am paper piecing. This was the first quilting technique I learned, and though slower than cutting from the fabric I like it a lot. I have heard sweet stories of old, old quilt tops being found with the papers still inside.
If you make any errors with measurements then the mistake is made on the papers instead of the fabric and if the blocks don’t quite line up, they are easier to manipulate. Once the fabric is tacked to the paper, you can take a bag of them around with you and stitch at will.
